Super Boy?

Amongst "news" about Susan Boyle's state of mind and news about murder came this happy medium:
BOY HIT BY METEORITE
This German boy called Gerrit Blank literally caught a meteorite in his hand. Like, no shit!
Yahoo News had this to say:
"Ansgar Korte, director of Germany's Walter Hohmann Observatory, said: "It's a real meteorite, therefore it is very valuable to collectors and scientists."

as well as "Chances of being struck by a meteorite are around one in 100 million".

All I want to know is does the kid now have super powers?????
I read in a book once that this boy got hit by lightening and then could see into the future. Gerrit, take note and make some dolla (or deutsche mark/euro?) ....

GALAXY 102

Best radio station in the world? I think so. I really, really do.
For example just now I have listened to that song that goes "Nothinnnn but your T-shiiiirt on (I'm all by myself) Wit nothinnnn but your t-shiiiiirrrtt onnnn", followed by Soulja Boy 'Kiss Me Thru the Phone' and then Black Eyed Peas 'Boom Boom Pow.
And they promised that Lady Gaga 'Pokerface' will follow after the ad break.
The only songs I can't stand are the Pink remix of 'Don't Leave Me' they insist on play and anything by Alesha Dixon.
Other than that could it get better?
Where has my music taste gone?
And how long will I have to wait for them to play Tinchy Strider feat. N-Dubz 'Number One'??

Captain James T Kirk 2009

Does he live up to expectations? ohhhyes. Even more charismatic than the one and only William Shatner.

I watched the movie, it was epic. I wish it would last forever, the consellations were beckoning me as if it was my home, and Cptn. Kirk was just a bonus.

On the other hand, Spock (aka 'Silar' from heros) with a girlfriend? Not on, just not on.

To boldly go where no man has gone before. Peace <3 Fxxxxxxxxx

LADYHAWKE

Sunday's are always boring. Always, always, always. That is until Tim Burgess drops you a message asking if you want a guestlist place for the Ladyhawk gig that's happening that night. Err, duh. Of course we jumped at the chance (but then sauntered with much more cool to the actual event).

Ladyhawke were absolutely amazing live with Pip's blond haired Patti Smith-esqued self resplendent in comparison to the moody, broody black-clad boys who flanked her. Obviously 'Paris is Burning' got the whole crowd foaming at the mouth but even though Academy 2 was packed out the crowd were very much a 'Sunday crowd'- not too much rowdiness but obviously still appreciating the music. The encore made the night, however, with an amaaaaazing version of Free Money followed by the new single My Delirium.

We headed backstage to say hi to Pip and ended up talking to her band about Girls Aloud and err Bitch Slap and Forrest rinsed the rider (by having a bottle of water).

Pip told us that the picture Sarah painted was inspired by iconic 80s posters like the Fame on which I went into rhapsodies over how good Sarah Larnach is (something Pip agreed with). But seriously, I wishwishWISH I could paint even half as good as how that picture turned out (not to mention every other piece of Ladyhawke artwork Sarah also does). Amaaaaazing x2.
Pretty much an amazing night really considering the other alternative was to catch up on Corrie and sleep!

ROD

This 'Rod Stewart' wig really soils his good name. Described as the "Wake up Maggie - Rod Stewart style wig" WHAT?! The model is too smug as well. This whole thing makes me sick- this is why the internet is bad; you innocently search for Rod and it comes up with the worst wig in the history of wig making.

Camden Crawlin'

We DJ'ed at Camden Crawl on Saturday. Prettttyyyy good times to be honest. Even though we set off from Manchester at 6am Saturday and got back 6am Sunday, meaning a very sleepy drie home at 3am. It was totally worth it though.
First of all, after Sat Nav told us "You have reached your destination" (we hadn't), we managed to find the venue- an awesome church with the light streaming in through stain glass windows and incongrous Red Bull promo posters stuck up next to the Stations of the Cross!
Kitty, Daisy and Lewis were playing at the same venue so we hit it up with some 50s and 60s stuff- although by the end of our set we had reverted to type and played Ignition (Remix) as well as Blink 182. We alternated sets with the Answering Machine + Holly and Chris, although by the end as the stragglers left me and Forrest hit it up with some Fatboy Slim vs. Friendly Fires.
We managed to catch Hatchem Social and S.C.U.M during the day and Televised Crimewave and The Big Pink later on- all amazing sets. The one thing I didn't expect was the sheer amount of queues and some guy entertaining everyone but me, Forrest, Taniya and Claire with magic tricks (we were too small to see over peoples shoulders, boo!). We ended up at the aftershow party as well where Carl Barat played (which excited only me I think- but who cares, Libs were a seminal band back in the day!!). After trapsing up and down Camden my feet were pretty sore but we managed to cut down some walking time by sneaking through the market (led by Chris) and although we got busted by security we managed to sweet talk him into leading us through the Camden underworld and letting us out the otherside to the venue.
Pretty sweet day all in all!!

New Kids on the Block

It just isn't the same. Haven't they heard of anti-aging cream? I want the youthful glow of the 90s back not creepy old men trying to relight the fire. Only Take That managed to look better with age- esp when Gary shed the poundage. NKOTB used to be cool (ish), they certainly don't have it (the right stuff) anymore.

Same Teens and XOX vs. Camden Crawl

Ahhhhhhhrrrhhh. Every single year I look at the Camden Crawl line up and think "I might go this year, I really might." But never do. (Mainly because prior to this I wasn't eighteen and therefore would have been pretty much rejected from venues even if I'd managed to procure a dodgy "fake ID".. pfft). Anyway, turns out this year there is the catchily named Red Bull Bedroom Jam X-CRAWL 2009[Join Facebook Group there!] to get yourself down too- purely for the 14-18 contingent.

The best thing is the line up. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis + SCUM + Danananackroyd + Hatchem Social + Pulled Apart By Horses off the top my head.
Or possibly the best thing is we have got ourselves DJing at the St. Michael’s Church venue. Yumyumyum.
See you there

Kaori vs. The Cheek

The Cheek (aka. Cheeky Cheeky and the Nosebleeds) played Japan recently and we got the lovely Kaori to tell us allllll about it:

Day 1. It was lovely meeting for me to see THE CHEEK.The first meeting was 12th evening at Shibuya. When I arrived, the staff from their label and manager met me. We introduced each other and chatted for a while.
Later, we went to HUB where is the British Bar at Shibuya. When we arrived, girls who is one of fan. They chatted with the girls and took pix! Into the bar, many people hanged out there.
Of course, there are enthusiastic their fans also! Fans came up to them to take photo and said hello! It seemed really great and guys were enjoying the time! We had a good time and enjoyed drinking and dancing with music!!!

Day 2 in Japan. They had a gig in Yokohama. I arrived there, it was really bad weather and some lines were stopped by heavy rain and strongwind. Maybe some visiter couldn't arrive there. I was sorry about that.
However, even though it was midnight, many people hang out there to see their play. Many people crowd there and one guy said 'Icame here to see THE CHEEK!! I'm looking forward to see them long long time!!' I was so happy to hear it! Of course their set was brilliant!
It was first time to see them for me. Really really feeling nice.
After gig, Charlie played DJ also.
Many guys and kids hanged out and enjoy music, dancing and drinking!!! The fun night was past fast.

Day 3. The day was important for The Cheek because they play atBritish Anthems what is big event between UK and Japan. The bands from UK and Japan play there.
There are DJ booth also and DJ made kids dance!! This time, there was new stage for Japanese bands.Oh, I should introduce the bands play there.
2:00 THE XCERTS
2:45 ROBOTS IN DISGUISE
3:30 YOUTH MOVIES
4:15 GOLDEN SILVERS
5:00 CHEEKY CHEEKY AND THE NOESBLEEDS
5:50 ACIDMAN(from Japan)6:50 VAN SHE(Guest from Australia)
7:50 THE FRATELLIS

When I arrived at Studio Coast, THE XCERTS had started playing. I saw the act of ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. They were really cool. They were the same wherever they play on small or huge stage. After, I went to the outside Stage to get something to eat.
Then I found Thom in front of Japanese stage! The girls who are their fan came up and said hello! The Cheek already has fans in Japan!! It seems great!! The Cheek's stage was scheduled on 5:00pm but it was late. I was sooooooo excited to see them and looking forward to see their act!!!!!
When they came out of the stage and started playing, the light shone on the stage. It was brightest view!!! Rory danced lightly! I love seeing his lovely dance!!!! You know already how fantastic their staging are!!! I can't express well in English though. I was enchanted to their stagings. I felt a thrill of joy!!!!!!! A lot of fans crowded and danced in front of the stage!!!! They screamed when Rory dived into there!!!!!! Charlie's singing voice and energetic guitar sound, bright guitar of Christian, sound of powerful base guitar of Thom, the drum sound with the feeling of speed of Ali and Rory's voice and dance, everything were good for me!!!!!!!!!!

Ali showed the pretty smile while sometimes beating the drum. It was so cute!!!!!!!!
It was really good for me that I was able to feel their sounds and experience their gigs! After stage, they had events for fans. Before they came up, there was a long line already!! A lot of fans had been waiting for them since their gig finished. They seemed to enjoy writing the signature, shaking handsand talking with fans very much. They were so lovely guys. I hope they come back to Japan soon!

Sunday 22 March 2009

Boring Sunday?

Why are Sundays boring? I really wish I had an exciting day spread ahead of me rather than the 2 history essays and English quotation learning which really will fill my day!
We DJ'ed in Lancaster last night which was sweeeet- especially as we put on some Britney Spears and followed up with Death From Above- good mix. (Ahem).
Just finished watching the Breakfast Club for the 10th time- thought I might have developed a crush on John Bender until I saw a picture of him now and it ruined it for me. Daaaaamnn. I mean seriously, the ageing process has not been kind...
Also found out my mother fancies Emilio Estevez (then and now)- I mean really. But I guess it is Mothers Day, so will probably let that one slip.
Another brief thought- why do all 80s films have a dance section? If it isn't specifically alluded too in the title (aka. Flashdance / Dirty Dancing) then they slip it in somewhere! No complaints though, pretty much worth it!
Plus Molly Ringwald pulls shapes! Jadexx

XOX vs. Mystery Jets

Argh! How exciting, we can finally announce our biggest gig ever with Manchester International Festival. We went to the press launch today and it was amazing and a bit intimidating (posh bangers'n'mash in little bowls to eat and everyone in suits kinda thing).
I'm so excited for our event now! It's come around really quickly and I'm sure the 3rd/4th July will be here in no time!
We've got Mystery Jets headlining the two nights with support on the 3rd from Televised Crimewave and DJ Set from Tim Burgess then night two we're gonna play some tuuunes (eek) and we've got v. special guest TBA. Gossshh!
As well as that we're also looking to make the whole event into one, massive issue of XOX- so people texting in questions to ask the bands, photographers submitting work, reviewers scribbling away, style spotters getting A La Manchester's features- a heap of interactiveness!
It's going to be pretty epic. The whole MIF is looking amaaaazing as well, Kraftwerk, Del la Soul, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwrights opera... Phew. Roll on July!

Fancy a pint....next Wednesday

Fancy a drink? Good. Want to do it every week? Even better. Want to just drink all the time and do nothing else? We think you should talk to someone about it.
We've got the launch night for our new XOX Bar Sessions starting on Wednesday March 25th and happening every Wednesday after that - we'll be playing records ranging from hip hop to indie and everything in between.
The first one sees our old friend Clint Boon stopping by on his way home and joining us for a sly half of cider - By then we would have told everyone about our right exciting gigs that we've got to keep schtum about till Thursday, so it'll be celebrations all round and the odd free T shirt too.
See you there?

Tim Burgess vs. XOX

Model: Forrest Hu
So we have these amazing t-shirts which we had made for us by the fab Origin68 and around the same time we also had an invite to meet with the equally fab Tim Burgess for a cheeky drink and first-time meeting in the Northern! So, whats the first thing you do when confronted with a indie lord/superstar dj? Thrust your merchandise in his face and watch his reaction? Yes. Of course it is!
Luckily we also bonded over a love of a New Order/Donna Summer mix and vinyl so it wasn't a purely mercenary activity. We love Tim!
We managed to get a few cheeky snaps of him in the tshirt and he loved it so much he even wore it to DJ in at Moho Live!
